St. Catherine’s National School

The Refurbishment and extension of an existing school in Aughrim as part of a Pilot Programme for compliance to nZEB Standards.

It consists of the d low-energy retrofit of the existing ancillary room school (229m²), the demolition of the prefab classrooms and construction of an adjoining single storey 4-classroom with toilet area extension to the existing school (423m²).

This project aimed to achieve high energy efficiency and employed complex construction methods to achieve this, such as building fabric upgrades, new ventilation, and a new heating system. At the same time, reducing the amount of energy used is reaping the benefits of reduced energy bills.
