The Downs National School

The Refurbishment and extension of an existing school in Westmeath as part of a Pilot Programme for compliance to nZEB Standards.

It consists of the low-energy retrofit of the existing 3-classroom school (254msq), and the construction of an adjoining single storey 4-classroom extension to the existing school (441msq).

This project aimed to achieve high energy efficiency and employed complex construction methods to achieve this, such as building fabric upgrades, new ventilation, and a new heating system. At the same time, reducing the amount of energy used is reaping the benefits of reduced energy bills.
